How Long to Dry?

DID YOU KNOW that when you have your carpet professionally cleaned it can take as little as one hour to dry — and, according to some reports, as long as THREE DAYS to dry?

According to the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification, or IICRC, the certifying body for professional carpet cleaners, carpet should take about six to eight hours to dry, and never longer than 24 hours to dry because after that amount of time, microbial growth (like mold and mildew) can begin to grow.

 No one wants that!

This is why you need a complete carpet cleaning system that guarantees your carpet is dry fast. How fast? It depends on the carpet type you have and also the weather conditions the day you have your carpet cleaned.

Sad to say, some experience really long drying times when they have their carpet cleaned. Who knows why this happens, except that it never should happen!

One thing is for sure, having your carpet cleaned should be a pleasant experience and after it is clean, you should be able to get back onto the carpet and back to a normal family routine quickly. Some companies don’t have the powerful cleaning machines necessary for doing the best work, and some don’t have the training they should.

When you have your carpet cleaned, or your furniture or hard floors like wood, granite, marble and all the different surfaces you may have, you deserve complete satisfaction and the best cleaning you will ever see.

Oriental Rug Cleaning

There are many types of “Oriental” style carpets and rugs.  Each has a distinct way of
being cleaned and maintained.

1. Cotton Colorfast “Orientals”:  Not a true oriental.  Smaller ones can be
wet cleaned, many right in a washing machine.

2.  Synthetic Fiber “Orientals”:  A moderate grade, area rug. Most can be steam
cleaned.

3. Colorfast Genuine “Orientals”: High value and high
grade fabric.  These fabrics must be cleaned and extracted
with low PH (6.5-7.5) solution and fringes cleaned with a
reducing agent and force dried.

4. Non-colorfast Genuine “Orientals”:  Extremely
high value and high grade fabric. These must be cleaned using dry solvents only. The
fugitive nature of the dyes can cause disastrous effects if cleaned improperly.

Our approach to oriental rug cleaning combines craftsmanship with state of the art
equipment. These tools designed specifically for  cleaning oriental rugs get them as
clean as science will allow.

When considering the cleaning of “Orientals”, Cherokee will be able to determine the exact and safe method to use. We will pick them up, process them in the plant, and return them to you cleaned and deodorized
How To Care For Your Oriental Rug
Rotation - To insure even wear, your oriental rug should be rotated once a year. Depending on the traffic, the rotation may vary from six months to two years.
Vacuuming - Oriental rugs, like most carpeting, should be vacuumed on a regular basis to remove dirt and restore life to the fibers. Be sure not to vacuum the fringe with your beater bar! Use the end of a vacuum hose from a canister vacuum.
Padding - A quality pad used under your rug helps protect it from dirt, wear and slippage.
Spot and Spill Procedures

Make sure that you safely and immediately clean up spots and spills before they set.
           1. First, soak up the excess liquid by blotting with a
clean absorbent  material. Do not brush or rub the stain.
 2.  Then spot clean with a mild detergent-white vinegar-water solution. Do not over wet.
 3.  Rinse area thoroughly with water and a small amount of vinegar. Avoid wetting the rug's backing.
 4.  Blot dry until most of the moisture has been absorbed.
 5.  Allow to air dry. A fan or cool hair dryer can be used to hasten the drying process.
 6.  For stains that do not come out using these methods, call our office.

Tile and Grout Cleaning.

The Tile and Grout Cleaning Process

Let Cherokee take one more job off your hands (and knees) We use a powerful, yet safe and very effective, cleaning process. Using a specially developed cleaning solution and high-pressure, hot water rinse within a fully enclosed vacuum system, we can restore the gleam to your stone or ceramic tile and grout surfaces. Using the latest in cleaning technology our method pressure washes the surface while simultaneously extracting all the built up grime. There is no over spray, so your cabinets, fixtures and carpeted areas remain protected, along with your surrounding environment.

   The Sealer
We recommend using our high quality sealer on your stone, tile and grout after it has been cleaned. This protective barrier penetrates and blocks the surface of the grout or stone effectively resisting the penetration of foreign materials making it much easier to keep clean. And sealer minimizes the likelihood of staining and increases the time available to pickup the staining materials before it can become permanent. Sealing simply helps keep your flooring looking it’s best much longer.

How to Get the Most From Your Carpet

Maintain Your Carpets!
When it comes to maintaining your carpet, one of the most critical areas of focus is the traffic area. If soil is not removed on a regular basis, the traffic areas will begin to wear excessively. The dirt is extremely abrasive against the fibers of the carpet as you walk back and forth on it. The second area of focus is spot removal. You must react to “danger ” spots immediately. Red wine, red beverages, urine, blood, etc. can cause a permanent stain if not treated immediately. Listed below are the steps that you must take to properly maintain your carpeting.
Vacuuming
Vacuum your carpet often, twice a week at least. Vacuuming removes the abrasive soil that can cut and slice the fiber causing premature wear. Much of this soil is not visible to the eye. Vacuum before the carpet looks soiled. Remove any loose particles such as loose food, leaves, pieces of crayon, bugs, etc. as these items can cause a spot on the carpet.
Professional Cleaning
As a general rule, carpet cleaning by a professional, certified firm should take place at least once a year. For heavy traffic areas, cleaning may be required more often. Proper professional cleaning will not leave a sticky residue behind and can be done as many times per year as needed. MANY STAIN RESIST WARRANTIES REQUIRE PROFESSIONAL CLEANING EVERY 2 YEARS. Professional cleaning removes the damaging soil in traffic areas that vacuuming has not been able to remove.
WARNING: UNINFORMED CARPET CLEANERS MAY VOID YOUR WARRANTY.
Warranty
Stain resist warranties can vary from 5 to 20 years. ALL STAIN RESIST WARRANTIES REQUIRE REGULAR CLEANING AND IMMEDIATE SPOT REMOVAL.
Spot Removal & Interim Cleaning
Immediate spot removal is key to a clean carpet. You must take great care when spot cleaning! When a carpet is new, or has sufficient protector on it, plain tap water will remove many spots. However, for those spots that will not move easily with water, you must use a spot cleaner. Select a spot cleaner that is recommended by the carpet manufacturer or your trained certified professional cleaner. Most spot removers that are purchased over the counter leave too much soap residue and can cause yellowing. Avoid using foam carpet cleaners or any product that is not made specifically for carpet (we have a great one, just ask the technician).
Apply spot cleaner sparingly to terry cloth and gently massage spot causing it to transfer into the cloth. Never pour spot cleaner directly on carpet. If the product that you are using seems to cause the spot to reappear over a few weeks, discontinue use. For any spot that you are not able to remove, such as pet urine or feces, call us immediately.

Spill Cleanup Tips

There is a right way and a wrong way to clean up accidental spills on your carpet. What you should not do is just as important as what you should do. Today’s new carpets resist spots much better than those manufactured even a few years ago. However, they are still susceptible to spots and should be treated quickly to avoid a permanent stain.

Step 1: Blot up as much of the spill as you can. Make sure you blot - don’t scrub. Scrubbing will only work the spill deeper into the fiber, and may leave a wear mark. Use a white paper or white cotton towel to blot. Fold the towel and press it into the spill. Continue to blot until no more of the spill transfers to the towel. Remove any solid material with a rounded spoon or the edge of a dull knife.

Step 2: Cover the blotted area with a fresh white towel. Weight the towel with something that will not transfer color to the carpet or towel. Leave this in place for 15-20 minutes to remove any remaining spill.

Step 3: Spotting the remaining stain in your carpet requires care and patience. You cannot apply most household cleaners to the stain without further damaging the carpet.

Many common cleaners contain dyes that will discolor the carpet, or chemicals that will permanently set the stain.

If you can locate the literature you received when you bought the carpet it should contain spotting procedures for you to follow.

Should a stain persist, contact

Cherokee Carpet Cleaning for assistance. We may be able to offer further advice by phone, or if necessary, we’ll dispatch a technician with a complete spotting kit to remove the stain.

Did You Know About Animal Stains?

Dog may be man’s best friend but not necessarily that of man’s carpeting. Neglected animal stains have been a problem ever since the first “accident.”

Two types of reactions can take place between the chemicals in the urine and those in the fiber dye. Some dyes change color as soon as the urine comes in contact with them.

The other change develops slowly over a period of several months and results in permanent change in the fiber dye. Not only is there a dye change but some fibers become weakened or are destroyed. After cleaning, these areas are more obvious because the soil has been removed.

The next time you are confronted with an animal “accident,” immediately absorb as much liquid as possible. If immediate action is taken to remove the stain in this manner, little or no change in color should occur and that forgotten “accident” will not become apparent after your carpet has been professionally cleaned.

Why should you clean your carpets?

Clean carpet is a major part of a clean indoor environment. The important concepts today are IEQ (indoor environment quality) and IAQ (indoor air quality). Since gravity insures most soils and pollutants find their way down to the carpet, regular carpet cleaning is important in removing them. We also clean for other reasons.

Aesthetics are important . We want to take pride in our possessions. In our homes, the carpet is the largest and most visible furnishing in a room. When a carpet is soiled or doesn’t smell fresh, it detracts from the whole room, perhaps even our whole home. Conversely, a clean fresh carpet accents our home and our other furnishings. We feel comfortable having other people come into our home.

Another reason for cleaning is to prolong carpet life. Grit and soils trapped in the fibers erode the fibers as we walk on them. Each footstep rubs sandy grit against the fibers cutting away at them. Gradually fibers are weakened and destroyed. The carpet begins to look worn and tired. When carpet wears and needs replacement prematurely, money is wasted.

Satisfaction. We get a sense of satisfaction when we live and work on clean carpet. It’s like putting on a new pair of shoes. It feels good. Every time we clean a carpet, our customer always wears a smile when we’ve finished. The carpet is clean. The carpet is healthy. The carpet looks good. It smells good. It makes us feel good.

That’s important!
